Building Community Power
Learning Cohort

About the
Learning Cohort

Eight steps to building community & organizational power
A cohort-based learning experience for emerging organizations ready to grow their capacity and advance community-led change

❋ Building Together

An 8‑month, facilitated learning cohort designed to help organizations master the steps of Emergence’s Building Community Power Toolkit—a proven framework that has helped us:
- Raise over $100 million collectively
- Help brand‑new organizations grow into $1M+ budgets
-
Build leadership structures and strategies rooted in community and collective power

❋ Collaborative Energy

Connection is a core part of the process. You’ll learn just as much from the group as from the content itself

❋ Expert Facilitation

Led by Emergence founder Liz Welch, who knows how to hold space, encourage participation, and keep things moving with purpose

The Process

Each month, from March through October, the cohort will gather virtually and dive deeply into each of the framework’s core steps—connecting theory to practice and grounding the work in real organizational conditions.

Liz will guide the group in exploring each step–and provide direct support to each participating organization in applying principles to their specific community needs.

What You’ll Gain

This learning community is designed to help organizations not only understand the toolkit, but use it—to drive community‑led change over the long haul. Participating organizations will:

Build a clear, grounded strategy: Understand where your organization is in its growth—and what it needs next to move from reactive work to intentional strategy

Strengthen organizational foundations: Develop systems that support sustainability, not burnout–and build internal practices that match your external values

Support sustainable growth: Create actionable fundraising strategies and prospects–and build confidence in asking for and stewarding resources

Learn with and from peers: Create connections with organizations facing similar challenges in regions across the country–and engage in shared learning and community building that will last long beyond the cohort itself

Who should join

This learning community is for any organization committed to justice, accountability, and community leadership–but it’s especially well‑suited for:

  • New or early‑stage organizations

  • Small or grassroots groups ready to grow with intention

  • Organizations navigating a transition or inflection point

  • Leaders seeking structure, clarity, and shared learning

You don’t need to have everything figured out—you just need a commitment to learning, reflection, and practice.
